Key Responsibilities:
- Perform full diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and major repairs on diesel forklifts (engines, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust after-treatment, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and repair all electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, alternators, starters, sensors, control modules, batteries, and electronic displays.
- Address every type of forklift issue — mechanical, hydraulic, structural, steering, braking, and operator-safety systems — using creative, out-of-the-box thinking when standard procedures fall short.
- Independently manage the complete maintenance program for at least 10 forklifts, including scheduling, parts ordering, record-keeping, and ensuring 100% uptime during peak operations.
- Conduct root-cause analysis on recurring or unusual failures and implement permanent improvements (modifications, upgrades, or custom-fabricated solutions when needed).
- Perform welding, fabrication, and machining as required to solve unique problems.
- Maintain detailed service records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
- Work safely and ensure all repairs meet or exceed manufacturer specifications and OSHA/ANSI standards.
- Operate independently with minimal supervision while still communicating effectively with the operations team when coordination is required.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a forklift mechanic with specific expertise in diesel engines (diagnosis, overhaul, fuel injection, turbochargers, emissions systems).
- Proven ability to work completely independently — you must be able to take ownership of a forklift from diagnosis to test drive without constant guidance.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills (multimeter, wiring diagrams, CAN-bus systems, and electronic controls).
- Demonstrated experience successfully maintaining a fleet of 10 or more forklifts simultaneously.
- Creative problem-solving mindset — you see unconventional solutions when others are stuck.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and parts catalogs.
- Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, work in awkward positions, and perform repairs in shop or yard environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain forklift operator certification.
Preferred Qualifications (What will make you stand out):
- Technical certification or diploma in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or equivalent.
- Experience with multiple forklift brands (Toyota, Hyster, Yale, Crown, Mitsubishi, etc.).
- Welding (MIG/TIG) and basic fabrication skills.
- Knowledge of both diesel and electric/hybrid forklifts (a big plus).
- Familiarity with fleet management software or preventive maintenance tracking systems.
- Clean safety record and strong commitment to OSHA-compliant practices.
What we expect from you:
You should be self-motivated, reliable, and proud of your work. You don’t wait to be told what to do — you see a problem and you own it. You combine deep technical knowledge with the creativity to invent solutions when parts are delayed or the manual doesn’t cover the issue. You understand that keeping 10+ forklifts running smoothly directly impacts the entire operation.
